Link: Graphic Link: In print While searching for graphic ideas I stumbled across an Associated Press article on a dark matter experiment buried under the Black Hills. The article helped the reader understand the importance of the research, but the “how” was glossed over as it would be almost impossible to explain in words. I worked on the graphic with artist Maxwell Henderson. We sought to unravel the experiment – to explain only what was necessary while not skipping over difficult subjects.Read More →

Clip: Ethnic enclaves in L.A.

Link: In print This project started with me being assigned to research ethnic enclaves in Los Angeles. As the information I collected grew beyond a small sidebar, and as I realized there was a lack of round-ups on the matter, I worked on building a full-page graphic. Finding information on each area was difficult, as some of the enclaves are not as organized as others. I all, I used 33 sources for the project.Read More →

Artist Maxwell and I worked on this graphic together. My role included finding and shaping the map data so we could import it into ArcMap. Max then controlled the way the layers appear to make the map more reader-friendly.Read More →

Clip: Deadly path

Link: Graphic Link: In print As Hurricane Sandy was ravaging the eastern seaboard, the whole graphics team got together to brainstorm on visualizing the damage. We decided on showing: projected weather (to move the graphic forward), areas without power (illustrate damage), text notes (giving more detail on each state). I also worked on finding information on how Sandy compared to past hurricanes. There is no single way of comparing hurricanes, so I worked to find storms that are top in one category (most intense, most deadly and so on).Read More →

Hey there, thanks for visiting! I am digital editor at Voice of OC. I am also a mom to two, a wife, a Long Beach resident, a fan of hoppy beers, a vegetarian and an amateur baker who enjoys perfecting macarons.

I have been a journalist all my life, starting with creating my own newspaper for back to school and open house nights in the fourth grade.
